Welcome to Kindergarten at East Ridge Elementary
Tammi Stafford, Tonya Dowden, Crystal Hinojosa, Wendy Smartt,Loren Lopez

We have five Kindergarten classes at East Ridge Elementary.
Our Kindergarten program helps to build a strong foundation for each child's education. Children learn classroom procedures and valuable social skills, along with a thorough academic curriculum.
Language Arts
The language arts curriculum teaches children to recognize the letters. Next, the children begin reading. We expect each child to read the six short vowel readers in Kindergarten. We encourage each child to read through book 10 to begin the school's Accelerated Reader Program. This program allows children to check out books from the library and then tests the child's reading comprehension.
Math
The math curriculum teaches children to count and write their numbers to 100. We also introduce shapes and colors. We will teach simple addition and subtraction problems during the second semester. We work on money, reading charts and graphs, and measurement during the school year.
Additional Skills
Some other things your child can do at the end of the year include the following: say and write full name, say address and telephone number, say birthday, tie shoes, use a correct pencil grip, cut with scissors, show left and right, recognize numbers 0-20, recognize shapes and colors, and skip.

A few of the many activities in which the Kindergarten students will be participating include field trips to the May Farm, Stephen Fite Concert, Rattlesnake Round-Up, and the Abilene Zoo.

We also have an Easter egg hunt, a Thanksgiving Feast and a Kindergarten graduation ceremony. Kindergarten is a year full of excitement and growth where amazing things happen!
Fun Times with the Kinders
Mustang Readers is always a fun time with the Kindergarden. Here is Ms. Hinojosa's class with some of their favorite Mustangs.
