Language Arts |
Sentence types and structure are taught to develop good writing skills. Correct grammar, capitalization, punctuation skills and parts of speech are emphasized. Journal writing is a part of our curriculum in Language Arts. |
|
Math |
This year 2nd graders need to memorize the basic facts for addition and subtraction. Please purchase or make flash cards to help your children master these facts. The students will be tested to assess their mastery of these skills. These skills are essential as the concepts of addition and subtraction with regrouping are taught. Multiplication and division will be introduced toward the end of 2nd grade. Each day students work on Mountain Math a program that overs 25 areas of math. We also would like to share some fun and easy poems about money to introduce to your children.
Penny, penny,
Easily spent,
Copper brown
And worth one cent.
Nickel, nickel,
Thick and fat,
You're worth five cents.
I know that.
Dime, dime,
Little and thin,
I remember
You're worth ten.
Quarter, quarter,
Big and bold,
You're worth twenty-five
I am told!

Science |
The 2nd graders began the year studying about animals and their classification and grouping. The next topic of study is matter: solids, liquids, and gases. Energy will be another science concept taught as well as the study of plants, living things of long ago, the sun, air and water, weather, how the body works and safety. |
